Colmcille Trail
Milford
by Elena T.
Approximately 7 kilometres long loop from Milford around Colmcille lake.
The central part of that walk is on public roads, and about 2 kilometres are not accessible for cars.
If you prefer to do only the part that is not accessible by cars - it is the forest road along the lake between Glenallen road and Urbalshinney road. It is hard to find where to park your car; from Glenallen's side, if you drive about 20 meters on the forest road, there is a space that is supposed to be a car park. From Urbalshinney road, you could stop beside the road in that part where the road becomes wider.
The trail is manageable, although there are some slightly steep parts. The path is rocky and could be challenging for buggies, wee bikes/scooters.
It is a beautiful countryside full of life, green and history. You can find lots of benches; the best one is next to the lake shore where you can enjoy the view. The lake itself is a public water supply, so avoid any pollution.
The walk is a refreshing and wonderful autumn time when the landscape has all the colours this season brings.
