The Old railway walks Creeslough (Muckish to Falcarragh Railway Walk) is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the stunning natural beauty of County Donegal. The trail is 9.5 km, and it is not a loop. It follows a section of the old Creeslough to Burtonport railway line, winding its way past the majestic Muckish Mountain, Fiddler's Bridge and Falcarragh railway station. The walk is situated near both the charming town of Falcarragh and the picturesque village of Creeslough, making it easily accessible for visitors from both sides of the trail.

The trail begins at the Foot of Muckish Trailhead car park and follows the path of the old railway line that once ran through the area. Alternatively you can start the trail the opposite way from at Fiddler's Bridge - Part of Old Railway Walk. It is important to note that if you start from the foot of Muckish Trailhead car part, the trail starts as 2 km tarmac path and it is more suitable for people with disabilities and walking difficulties, as if you begin from the Fiddler's Bridge you will start with a gravel path turning into tarmac in few kilometers. The parking at Foot of Muckish Trailhead is bigger than the one Fiddler's Bridge.


The railway line was closed in 1947 and has since been transformed into a picturesque walking trail that winds through the village's hills and countryside.


As you begin your journey along the Old Railway Walk, you'll notice the peaceful tranquillity of the area. The trail is well-maintained and features a mix of gravel and grassy paths that are easy to walk on. You'll be surrounded by lush greenery, colourful wildflowers, and a variety of local wildlife, including rabbits and various species of birds.

The trail can be combined with Muckish Mountain Miners Path hike


Nearby the trail start (Foot of Muckish Trailhead) is another hiking opportunity - Mukish Miners Path. Rising over 667 meters, Muckish is an imposing sight that dominates the skyline of the area.
