Experience the Breathtaking Beauty of Poison Glen View Point in Donegal

Nestled at the foothills of Mount Errigal, the Poison Glen viewpoint is a stunning spot that offers an unparalleled view of the surrounding valley. Visitors can take in the Dunlewy Lough, Lough Nacung Upper's breathtaking vista and the jagged rocks that punctuate the valley.

This wee stop is a must-visit for anyone exploring the area, and with good reason. Visitors can sit on one of the benches or grab a warm cup of coffee from the nearby van while soaking up the view. Don't forget to bring a hat, though, as the wind can pick up quite a bit at this elevation.

It's impossible to resist snapping a photo of the scenery here. The view of Mount Errigal rising majestically in the background, the rocky crags that overlook the valley, and the abandoned church where the Devlin River meets the lake all make for a striking composition. As you take in the sweeping panorama, you'll also glimpse the sparkling ocean in the distance and an endless horizon. It is a fantastic place to experience a beautiful sunset.

The Poisoned Glen gets its name from a legend about an ancient one-eyed giant king named Balor, who was slain by his exiled grandson, Lughaidh, in this very spot. Legend has it that Balor's poison eye split the rock and poisoned the glen. While this makes for an interesting tale, the truth is that the valley was supposed to be named "The Heavenly Glen" by the locals. However, an English cartographer accidentally mapped the area as "The Poisoned Glen", and the name stuck.

Regardless of its name, the Poisoned Glen viewpoint is a must-see for anyone exploring this area of Ireland. With its spectacular scenery and fascinating folklore, this stop will leave a lasting impression on anyone who visits.
